Phillip had managed to stay grumpy enough over the singing fiasco to resist practising with Jackie for almost two weeks, but he could only go so long before the desire to fly again overrode any principles about humiliation. He did not particularly want to remember the affair in the Great Hall, but he had to admit it had not really been as horrible as it could have been ( ... )

Considering Phillip's birthday wasn't until school was over and that it was doubtful that he'd wait until then for Quidditch gloves, Jackie had it in her head to surprise her best mate for Christmas though she was pretty sure his parents would succumb to his hints for a pair. And since he really wouldn't need two pair, she probably would just have to raid the Quality Quidditch shoppe -or ask her brother to- later on to get him his semi-annual Quidditch gift. He was decidedly easy to shop for, and she figured that out early in their friendship. Books? Nah. Candy? Well, sometimes. But anything Quidditch-related was a sure thing ( ... )

Phillip would have been surprised to know that Jackie would ever think of buying him a new pair of the gloves. He was, of course, used to her giving him birthday and Christmas gifts, generally speaking, but the gloves weren't something he'd expect from her. They were awfully expensive, and Jackie was, in part, responsible for his loss of the original pair in the first place. At least, that was how Phillip saw it. Surely she'd not want to get him another pair after that ( ... )

Jackie wouldn't want to keep Phillip away from Quidditch gloves, as long as they were the authentic, straight-from-the-store type and not the mysterious semi-enchanted dangerous kind that everyone including Headmistress McGonagall had become a little wary about. And since she felt like a stick in the mud for making him turn in his free pair, she figured she might make it up to him by buying a real pair him. Of course, that just meant skimping out on chocolate frogs for a while -though she had already been doing so because of the love potion incident- and dipping into her allowance, but her father was usually generous and she rarely splurged on big items with it.

She laughed at his expression. "Well, you didn't have to take me up on my bet." She grinned jovially, catching the Quaffle and zipping along side and then forward to make a reverse pass at him. "True, but I think I could have gotten away with singing 'Twinkle Twinkle'." 'Course she was a bird, which was his point, but then she really didn't think about their differences ( ... )
