Daphne entered the classroom and took her usual seat, expecting class to begin soon. However, Professor Wu gave them a chance to discuss the gifts everyone had received earlier in the week. Daphne was not particularly interested, as the gift she'd received had proved useless, and she'd thus promptly locked it away and out of mind.
Her classmates seemed quite determined to take advantage of the chance to avoid I Ching again, so Daphne sighed and settled in, only barely listening to the others.
Warrington, once more sitting beside her, was bragging about his gift, some fancy wand case made of gold and studded with diamonds. She shot him a look, "That's hardly unusual. Every pureblood in England has at least one such case," her tone was only slightly aggravated.
He asked, sneering, "You're just jealous because yours is so worthless

Professor Wu had been leaning against her desk, watching the students enter and take their seats, before she had given the period up as a "free day". She pasted a simple yet understanding smile on her face, knowing she wouldn't get any work done, and wandered around the room, listening to bits of everybody's conversations and giving little trinkets of advice to those who asked.
When Daphne turned to her, Professor Wu nodded. "Gifts are rarely free... and it would be wise to err on the side of caution than blindly accepting such things." Because even if they did know who the gifts were from, that didn't mean there wouldn't be treachery or betrayal underneath. The world could be cruel like that.
She was about to ask Miss Kaligaris what gift she received, that Mr. Warrington had deemed worthless, but paused. She knew that if Daphne wanted to share, she would and if she didn't say anything, it would not be right to put her on the spot

Deirdre bounced cheerfully into the Divinations classroom, a full stomach from lunch and a bright smile on her face, because this was her best course. How could she not come in eager and happy? She was ready for anything the class might bring her today, nevermind that Sean had been acting perhaps a bit oddly since the day before. She still assumed it was some game or some other reason that she had simply missed; she was used to being a bit behind everyone else, after all
