'Roger' is not, and has never been, a particularly threatening name. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to take this head space pirate guy seriously...?

I swear, when he introduced himself, he said 'There are some who call me.... Roger."

When reading this type of old science fiction, you need to remember that it didn't have the benefit of time and maturity to develop plot and character. Enjoy it for what it is, a simple uncomplicated space opera.

I'm assuming this is my dad, and no, that still doesn't work. He re-wrote this book, it's not the story published in instalments in science fiction magazines, so he could have changed 'Roger' to something slightly more sinister. Like, I don't know, Jonathan. Jonathan seems more threatening than Roger.
