Movie Reccomendation: No One Killed Jessica

Feb 08, 2011 15:37

I love finding movies that have a strong, non-stereotypical, female lead. But it's unfortunately really hard to find films these days like the one I'm recommending.  It's an Indian film (bollywood actually, which is even more impressive for a film of this nature), and it's a really great pro-feminist movie.  It's based on the true story of the murder of a woman named Jessica Lal. 300 people were witnesses but no one saw a thing. Here are the things that are awesome about it:

-It has not one, but TWO female leads, trying to solve this case.
-They are both strong, smart, and independent.
-There is little to NO focus on their romantic lives.
-It's plot driven.

This is groundbreaking for Indian cinema. But the incredible thing about it is that you never see things like this in the supposedly more progressive Hollywood either.

The trailer for the movie.  It's mostly a Hindi trailer, but there's English in there as well.

The movie is on Instant Play on Netflix.
