a british clergyman has suggested that the reason there are so many divorces in britain is that the women getting married aren't submissive enough.

credit where credit's due, the man is correct. a main contributor to divorce is women wanting to assert their own basic human rights and ( Read more... )

The man is a prize plum, and because his argument is based on faith and not logic I'm not going to waste my time deconstructing it.

PS Interesting interview on BBC Women's Hour about female role models in the bible here.

It's a radio program that's loosely aimed at women; although many of the topics covered are also of interest to men, and I believe 1/3 of their listeners are men.

And what are Marigolds? Could these folks kindly stop trying to put their silly gender theories on other people, please? It's quite good that women have CHOICE. That they have a VOICE. That they can be equal in marriage.

They'd probably be a ton of divorces in the past if women had freedom and equality back then. So many people's marriages were not like marriages now.

marigolds are rubber gloves you wear when washing dishes etc.
the fact that he used that as a rebuttal is pretty damned hilarious. "how will i get women back on my side?... i've got it, get men to help them do their housework!"

Ah. Well men should do that anyway, but who is this guy to tell women to be submissive?
The idea of being submissive, despite the fact that I am meek fills me with the urge to stay single and aquire a kaleidoscope of butterflies and other assorted interesting creatures.

During yesterday’s sermon Mr Oden said he wished to make it clear that he did not believe women were “weaker intellectually” but that it was “an eternal principle that women are physically weaker than men”.

So physical strength gives you the right to "dominate" your wife. And if she is on the same plane intellectually, why can't she speak in Church if her husband knows the answer?

Funny thing is that women have far more lower body strength than men do, and on one episode of fight science they measured punches delivered by pro female and male boxers and the female hit about 100 lbs of force harder than the man (and the man was a huge guy!). I really don't believe that females are physically weaker, especially since we bear the pain of periods and childbirth -- childbirth being universally accepted as the most painful pain there could ever be. You kick a man in the nuts and he's out. A woman can be in labor for 20+ hours and come out even stronger. Funny how this guy ignores all instances of female strength. Not to mention also that the female in the womb is stronger than a male fetus plus we live longer. Meh.
