this reminds me of the crows (also in Japan. hmm) who build decoy nests to trick the patrol guys who go around pulling the nests down off hydro wires.

American Crows in my neighborhood drop chestnuts and other nuts into the street and wait for cars to pass over them. And yes, they like to do this at intersections.

I wouldn't say that "crows are getting smarter". They are as smart as they always were, only they're adapting to their surroundings :P.

I adore them. I have a non-releasable (I'm an avian rehabber, have been for about ten years) and he amazes me every day. They are also just so cute and cuddly and sociable.
