Bullia spp, The Surfing Snail

 I checked the archives but I don't think this has come up before.

No pictures sadly, but Bullia's are a group of largish yellow sea snails from South Africa with a pretty cool ability. They can, quite literally surf. Being scavengers, whenever anything tasty (like a rotting fish) washes up on shore, there's a rush to get in there and chow down, ( Read more... )

Wow, watching them feed was so surreal. They're actually quite fast. I'd run from a bunch of those at the beach for sure.

I googled bullia snail and the first result I got was... this post. XD Quite strange.

it's odd that there don't seem to be any pictures or anything. I'm fairly sure Bullia came up as part of the Blue Planet documentaries but I can't even find that.

I love shells. I collect them here in Perth. We have lots of pretty shells on our beaches if you know where to go. I'm bugnuts for seashells.

THOSE are some pretty shells.
