Checked the tags for this little (ha!) guy and didn't see mention of him anywhere, so I figured it was safe to share.

First heard of this one in the Wii game Endless Ocean (cuz I love the fishies) and finally got brave enough to explore The ABYSS (wtf is with the scary-ass drama-llama music?).

That is a strange and fascinating creature.

The exploding must be because the animal is used to dwell in deep ocean where it needs to resist the water pressure - any fish from deep sea(or at least a great portion of them) will do this, that's why you can't keep them in a regular aquarium, you need a pressurised one so they won't rupture when suddenly the resistance of the surrounding water dissapears.
It's kind of the same thing as if we would be thrown from the ground of our planet to space.
