Haha, sorry. :P I posted, and then thought "Wait, I should probably double check that!" (because my vertebrate evolution prof might just kill me if I get that one wrong) and, as so often happens when I'm trying to look something up, I forgot to come back and re-reply. :P
Technically not: snakes evolved from lizards, with their nearest cousins being monitor lizards. To put it into SAT terms - snake is to lizard as bird is to dinosaur (there were lots of dinosaurs groups, but only one group that evolved into birds). Tuataras are the 'cousins' of squamates (lizards + snakes).
Well, fair enough! Reptiles aren't really my subject of expertise, I just happened to find this little dude interesting from my limited perspective. I will edit again!
