What the aboriginal ppl went through is actually quite well known. Most aboriginal children were taken away from their homes and parents and stuck in Catholic schools run by nuns. They were never allowed to see their families again and I am sure that if they got ill and died, they were probably put in mass graves ( ... )

Ya, but the people of Canada and England probly like to think that they are better then that. Never mind that the policies traces back to early English colonialism and even farther to Cristian Rome and even to pre-Chritain imperial Rome. Europeanization is just modern Romanization.

MASS GENOCIDE HAPPENED IN CANADA? NO WAIIII.

Yeahhhhh, uhh. Canada isn't this perfect nation that everyone expects it to be. I'm sure in the history of other nations there are even more terrible examples of the genocide of native peoples. Canada should not be exempt from this just because people have stereotyped the nation as being so peaceful, etc. etc. etc..

This just goes to show what other people actually know about Canada. Which is not alot, apparently.

When I first read this article, I had the sudden image in my mind of an old lady saying, "But he was such a nice boy."

Oh well, on the whole, modern Canada kicks the US's butt.

I am biased when I say that the entire history of Canada kicks the U.S.'s butt, but I still believe it to be the TRUTH.

point-in-case: beaver pelts and fur traders were the backbone of Canada -- OH THE SEXUAL CONNOTATIONS.

Also, The Diefenbunker? Amazing.

HOWEVER, I still get irritated when people get it into their heads that Canada has a perfect past. This nation has done some pretty terrible things. IE. Turning away boats of Jewish refugees before and during WWII. Anti-Semitism? In my Canada? It's more likely than you think
