This sounds like the plot of a bad Chinese movie, only the ending would involve him falling for the ugly one.

I once suffered through a Hong Kong movie that featured the hero starting a dead baby's heart with a car battery and jumper cables. Also earlier in the movie he tried to breastfeed the baby.
