Oh my god. Did you hear that? That was the sound of my heart shattering. There was such a palpable sadness through the entire story, but the final scene, the final line especially, were like a punch to the gut.

Your writing was so beautiful, and I think that's what made it hurt all the more. You created such a rich world in so few words; it was easy to see the speakeasy and the dirty alley and McCoy's morgue.

I just had one question, though. Did you mean to make Jim seventeen? It just seemed odd to have him be so young, especially after having McCoy make the observation that Chekov, who I would imagine is probably seventeen here as he is in the movie, is just a boy.

Jim's age was deliberate. I wanted it so that they were all very young with Chekov actually being a child rather than just a teenager. I don't know why but when I imagined the speakeasy and everything else, it just seemed to fit. That all this is going to end for them before they've really had a chance to live.

Thank you for reading. I'm glad you liked it.

S'ok. I just went off and read something fluffy to make up for it :)

Oooh, noir so deeply dark it glitters. Beautifully and painfully done.

Oh my god, this is why I stick around in fandom - this makes me heartsick and unsettled, and when a fic can do that? I am a happy fangirl. Beautiful job and thank you for writing it.
