Fascinating, heartbreaking look at a possible (sadly too possible) future for Joanna McCoy. I loved this very much. Your writing is beautifully spare and precise, no word out of place and every word supporting and building your characterization. Wonderful work!

Thank you. I got really caught up in my head, about what might happen for Joanna if things didn't turn up roses and McCoy didn't get increased visitation etc. so I'm glad it turned out okay and that you liked it :)

Thanks. I wrote this for the where_no_woman community drabble challange where the promt was simply: Joanna McCoy,'in over her head' and I actually wrote a happy ending fic first before scrapping the second half and rewriting it for angst. I couldn't get the prompt to resonate soundly enough as a happy ending, so this was the result. I think there is actually a different response to the prompt as well (though not archived, you just have to sift through the comments) if you were interested.

This is a terrific fic, you show a mature and balanced view of the character (Joanna) her relationship to her father and the realities of life on board a starship.

I can't imagine it would be the fun and games as imagined ont he Enterprise, and I can understand that the others in starfleet would resent the people on board

This is infact my first star trek fic - though I've been reading loads recently as I'm suddenly hooked - and I was unsure whether my portrayal of Joanna was reasonable as all I know about her is garnered from other fics and what little I've scrounged from the internet (I'm not very familiar with ST:TOS though I've seen the recent film). I'm glad you think the portrayal works.
