I fear I'm very narrow-minded (fandom-wise)

I was scrolling through my LJ inbox just now, browsing through the fics waiting to be read, and I came to a very distressing realisation. Although I receieve alerts from both merlinfic and merlinslash, if these stories don't contain MerlinxArthur, I'm just not interested. MxA has become all I read! Even MerlinxMorgana fic (which was once quite a liking of mine) only

Really? But this is a perfectly agreeable situation!

I think what makes Merlin as a show so functional for fanfic is that there are a lot of hot characters of relatively equal importance who can be mixed and matched - kind of like an a la carte menu. That doesn't mean they're all equally interesting, espeically compared with some of your other options (like Merlin/Arthur, muahaha).

I'm totally with you on Gwen - I don't dislike her character per se, she's just too sweet and vanilla. She seems kind of like a convenience character, like if you need somebody to be the moral compass or the betrayed innocent or the convenient plot point, she's your girl.
Worse for me is Lancelot, though. I understand Santiago Cabrera is hot stuff, but somehow I don't enjoy him in slash and aside from that he's a little boring. (Oh god the fandom police are gonna come after me for that one lolol)

How do you feel about Merlin/Arthur/Morgana?

Now see, originally I was all for Merlin/Arthur/Morgana - hot threesome stuff. But now - only if she's dark and twisted and its all slightly dub-con becuase my fangirl mind is sitting there screaming "well its not like Merlin wouldn't actually want to share Arthur/look at girly parts now is it?!?"

Though RE: Lancelot. I have to say that a fic I read wherein Voyeur!Merlin spied on Arthur/Lancelot was hot - but again only becuase Merlin and Arthur got it on in the end...

You have been taken over by the mad dark!character muse of epic greatness, haven't you? Which I can only heartily approve of - there simply isn't enough dark!Merlin, dark!Arthur or dark!Morgana out there - you'd best get on that, ma'am. Could I prompt you with an evil Merlin/Morgana duo scenario where they slowly bewitch and then proceed to have their wicked way with innocent!Arthur together?

And LOL - in my book, even voyeurism is showing a remarkable amount of patience for Lancelot's presence. Lancelot threesome and voyeur!fics are sort of what I imagine it'd be like if someone wrote a fic where Arthur was having his way with a banana peel or something equally ridiculous while Merlin watched/participated. My mind would keep feebly protesting "but...Merlin's right there! He's right there!"

Just butting in to say - oh, yay, someone else who doesn't think Lancelot is very interesting! Um, I mean, I like Lancelot, just not like that, and he is a little boring, fanfic-wise. I much prefer the sparks between Merlin and Arthur.

Although, I have sadly always been an OTP kind of girl, in pretty much every fandom, except maybe HP. I guess it's a bit like being in love - if you're walking on clouds because of this one wonderful person, you don't really feel like looking at others in that way anymore.

I say go with the flow. It's not a bad thing at ALL! Being biased, OTP-wise, is a GOOD thing, in my opinion. Besides, it's not OUR fault that the OTPs are so very much delectable and besides, they choose us themselves, I say. We're just a convenience to them...

I agree with you in the sense that I've tried many different in various fandoms as well, but for me, I LIKE having an OTP to spend my time on rather than having a bunch of favorites.

And cor_leonis_1961's right. Lancelot in a slash pairing just doesn't do anything for me either. Just because he's a conveniently existing [male] character doesn't mean it's necessary to stick him with A/M and do a threesome.
