Bobby is quiet as he moves down the darkened hallway. He knows he is going to get caught one of these days. And he knows that they will be disappointed in him... and shocked at what he's been doing. Not that the act is shocking. It is more accepted now than it has been in the past. No, it isn't so much the what he is doing as it is the who he's doing.
He never intended for any of this to happen. It just did. And now it doesn't even seem possible to remember a time when it wasn't happening. They had been together since they were assigned the same room, just never like it is now. Never tanned, warm skin against pale, chilled flesh. Never tangled together in a mix of sheets and limbs. Never sneaking around after dark before slinking back to opposite sides of the line.
The door to his room closes behind him and he lets out a breath of relief, his heart slowly returning to it's regular beat as the adrenalin works out of his system. Things are getting dangerous now. Almost too dangerous to keep doing this, but he doesn't think he can stop either. The line between them is becoming more defined and yet it blurs a little more each time he sneaks out.
A few people give him looks now, whispered conversations stop when he passed by certain people. It is impossible to keep anything a secret in this place. He knows that. He was usually the first one to hear everything from either Kitty or Jubilee. Or he had been two months ago. Now they fall into silence when he’s around just like anyone else.
Scott looks at him longer than he used to, almost like he wants to say something but doesn't know how to start. Logan tenses, always seems to be ready to pounce even if he's just passing by. Ororo tries to draw him into conversation, general things really until she asks how things with Rogue are. Then he leaves. Rogue says she understands but he's sure she doesn't. She can't. The man she wants is in the mansion with them, even if the closest she ever came to sharing his bed ended with his claws ripping through her stomach. The Professor is the only one who hasn't said anything to him. That doesn't mean he isn't aware of what Bobby's been doing every other night for the last two months.
Bobby is waiting for them to tell him he has to make a decision. He is waiting to hear the Professor's voice in his head asking him to come to the office. He's wondering if they will all be there or if the Professor will talk to him alone first.
Bobby isn't very religious. He hasn't been since his powers fist manifested. That doesn't mean he's forgotten how to pray. He does so often. He's actually praying that he's never faced with that task. That they never tell him it can only be one or the other.
Bobby Drake is loyal. To his friends, his family and his beliefs. He is also loyal to the man he loves. And that is where the problem lies.
