This was another intense and great piece. I like how it started out in a funny way and ended so brutally, painfully. But all throughout, I could feel the tension/suspicion that Dean is feeling about Sam in the beginning and I can't wait to read the next part.
What Sam did...it was rape...and it was so painful to read it (of course, that's what makes it good writing). The sentence "No one cares. No one's coming. You just have to suck it up and- …" and the ending...just broke my heart. Great job in showing Dean's mental state and the buildup of their [abusive] relationship.
Thank you! And yeah, this is definitely the installment in which we really start to see how far gone Sam was even before the Day of Fire. It's almost harder ot watch Sam do the same things in this context, though, because the dynamic is never explicitly defined and watching Dean's confusion as he tries to rationalize it all can be really heartbreaking. Anyway, thanks for the feedback! :D
Poor Dean. Already Sam is abusing him. I know it gets worse, but this is already pretty bad-in an abusive-relationship-that-can-be-rationalized/excused-way by the person being abused (Dean). Sam isn't caring what/or when Dean wants and is too rough and not there for Dean emotionally....
But most intriguingly...Dean got a vision/dream of Sam? Or was that JUST a dream that somehow Dean's mind made up to try to show him how Sam is treating him? Though I think Sam really did kill that hooker. So I think maybe that connection that lets Sam put a part of him in Dean is the reason for this. And didn't Dean have dreams of Sam in that cell hurting when he was gone for 8 months? (But he just thought it was him worrying needlessly?) I think maybe Sam started 'getting into Dean's head' when he tried to telepatically send Dean 'letters'....
Yes, Dean is already rather being taken advantage of, but he works to rationalize it as best he can. It was actually a really fascinating piece of the series to write because imagining Dean in an abusive relationship from either end isn't an easy task, but his love of Sam and Sam's manipulation have really worn him down to this point, creating some truly lovely angst. So glad you found it intriguing!
Also? All your Truly Fascinating Ideas make me grin an awful lot! You are an exceptionally thoughtful person, clearly, though, of course, I can't confirm or deny any of your speculation. Regardless, I do certainly appreciate it! XD
