I see your reasoning but I must respectfully disagree. A burka is not just another type of veiling. It covers the woman from head to toe, only leaving her eyes visible. She is not allowed to take it off outside her house or special places (e.g. where no men are present). How can a woman like that have a coffee outside of her house with friends? How can she make contact with anyone outside her circle? Even the simplest tasks such as eating become unnecessarily difficult. How is this not oppressive and in stark contrast with "our" liberal beliefs of equality and justice? The main goal here is not just to show that you are Muslim- it's that women are temptresses and it's best to cover them up so that the weak men don't fall under their spell. Religious freedom cannot and should never overturn the constitution and allow for oppression. If you want to live in any country you have to adapt. Period. If you were to travel to Saudi Arabia you and your daughter would need a male guardian to be with you 24/7 and to sign for anything important. ( ... )
