The holidays haven’t been good for either of them lately. After the splits with his wife and her boyfriend they only had each other. It wasn’t like it was the end of the world. Hell, they hadn’t been happy in years. Not without each other. They belong together. His words. And that’s all the proof she needs.
He presses the tips of his fingers against hers and she leans her forehead against his. And she sighs deeply, breathing him in. He reaches up and strokes a lock of her hair and mumbles her name softly in her ear. His breath on her skin is the most heavenly feel, she thinks. She tries to memorize every moment they’re together, so that maybe later, when they aren’t, she can play back this exact feeling. This exact moment. And he kisses the side of her mouth. ’Ready?’ she asks and he nods. He grabs her hand and they head toward the balcony of the little apartment.
As the fireworks go off in an explosion of light above them, Jason grabs her hips, pulling her forward and presses his lips against hers. She wraps her fingers in his hair and the kiss ends slowly. Sweet torture. ’Happy New Year, Jase,’ she whispers. ’Happy New Year, Kristen.’ And she squeezes his hand. And it feels like a promise. Happily ever after.
