I don't know the Trilogy, but I certainly like your descriptions, particularly the horse's breath, the bruise, the emotion. Nice job!

Tee-hee. I like Nina; she sounds like an adorably bad character. That first paragraph made me laugh out loud.

Glad you decided to start playing! Are we going to see Nina go to this Heaven (which sounds dubiously non-heavenly)?

Not much rattles me, but the idea of Heaven makes me frantic!

“Your honor,” I protest, drawing my hands slowly down my sides--much more slowly than it takes to make my point. I don’t think Carver is gay, and I’m not above a little judicious whoring in dire straits. “Look at me!”

He peers coolly down his long nose. “You’re small, yes. What of it?”

“I’m less than two meters tall! That puts me under the protection of the Citizens with Disabilities laws!”

“Need I remind you, Miss Grey, that this is Mars? Those laws apply to Earth.”

“But-"

Carver raises his gavel. “Nina Grey, I sentence you to exile on Heaven, there to spend the rest of your natural life. Sentence to be carried out in three days.”

The gavel smacks down.

I think she meant them to be used in place of the little pictures on the board. But you should double check with her when she get's back later this afternoon.
