Firstly,

Secondly, many thanks to

Aside from watching from the observation window of the hospital room, there's little that Kitayama can do to help Fujigaya. It's only been 48 hours, after all, since the team had managed to break him out of his prison and no-one, bar the two doctors Ishigaki and Fujie who had been assigned especially to Fujigaya's case, had been cleared to actually approach the undercover agent.
Twenty-four hours ago, Ishigaki had approached the grave-faced team captain with the initial medical report. There had been very little good news to report.
"Yokoo wasn't joking when he said that you become the most useless person in existence when a teammate is hospitalised," quipped the familiar voice of Doctor Fujie from his right. A bar of kiwi-flavoured Kit Kat was waved in his face. "Eat something before you pass out and become even more useless."
Kitayama scoffed but took up the medic's offer of chocolate.
"Has he woken up yet?"
Fujie, who had just sidled up beside him, arms wrapped around a pack of papers - the full medical report, Kitayama guessed - nodded, his lips pursed in a worryingly thin line.
"He regained consciousness about two hours ago," confirmed the doctor, "which is about the only good news I can report; it's the only progress on his condition that's been made all day."
The foreboding tone in Fujie's voice caused the captain to spin around on the heels of his boots to face the doctor. "What happened?" he demanded. "You sound worried."
"It took him an extraordinarily short amount of time to identify the fact that there were needles attached to him, like he was overly familiar with the feeling of having needles in him," replied the doctor, his eyes trained on the prone figure of Fujigaya on the hospital bed. "The moment he actually saw the IV needle attached to his arm, he panicked and nearly tore his blood vessel trying to get it out. We had to put him back under after restraining him."
Kitayama slowly let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding in, slowly turning back to watch his teammate. They stood in silence for a while, just looking through the glass.
"When we found him," began Kitayama tentatively eventually, "there were white-coated orderlies prodding him with needles filled with some sort of clear liquid. He must still have been awake when they were experimenting on him."
Fujie hummed thoughtfully, muttering something that sounded vaguely like so that's what happened.
"How is he doing physically?"
"He's severely malnourished, which is the most worrying part physically-speaking, but he's otherwise okay," Fujie reported, looking down at the report in his hand. "I'm sure Ishigaki already told you yesterday, in his initial report, but we're both more worried about the state of his mental health than his physical health. We can help cure the physical health problems, but we'll be completely out of our depths if it turns out he's suffered from too much trauma to handle."
Kitayama gave a sharp nod of understanding. "Thank you."
"I'm sorry there isn't anything more we can do to help for now."
"He's looking a little better already," said the captain simply.
Fujie patted him on the shoulder, squeezing a little in encouragement. "He's woken up already, that's the important bit. Ishigaki and I will do our best to help him return to his pre-mission form as best as we can from here on out."
"Thank you."
"I'll turn the medical report over to your executive officer," announced Fujie, gesturing to the pack of paper.
He turned to leave but paused mid-step, his mouth open, ready to speak. Kitayama raised an eyebrow questioningly, but then he shook his head and went on his way.
Kitayama wondered what had been on the medic's mind.
