Have been reading like a fiend and have recently finished a ridiculous amount of books. The best had to be 'Jack Knife', written by Virginia Baker. I've always been morbidly fascinated by Ripper lore and this book has a nice Steampunky/Victoriana twist to it that I simply loved. Thanks for the list! I've been flailing around, looking for new books lately, and I really do like seeing people's book summaries. 'Jack Knife' is definitely going on my list now.

And Kim Harrison? Yum. I can't wait until it's in paperback.

... as for the cutesy monster trend, check the publisher. If it's Luna, it's a division of Harlequin. I've read one or two half-decent books from that line, but some of them... wow. Dreck made to capitalize on the recent trend for strong paranormal heroines in modern day settings with Love Interests (see Kim Harrison, LKH, and Kelley Armstrong for the people that they're modeling off of). ..maybe I'm being too harsh. I'm bitter because I haven't had much success with books lately. :P But thanks to you, I now hopefully will!
