I will say this about Africa: while I understand your hesitation--I shared it to, but I had to go for work--I didn't feel any of those things while I was in Uganda. The system, the government, are very, very broken, but the people absolutely are not. They are the kindest, most honest and welcoming people I've ever met. And yes, the poverty broke my heart. But the spirit of the people who live with it every day made me want to help them do something about it, because they are so full of hope and great ideas.

And also, the kids just shine. That little girl in my icon is someone I met and communicated with (my Bugandan was worse than her English, but we managed with hand signs and grins).
