Dear god that is depressing. Mayfly December romances generally are, but this is depressing even for that. Sad and wonderful, if that makes sense. The 'it's no one's fault, but still awful and unfair to everyone' vibe of a really good tragedy. Spike's choice at the end though...strangely interesting. It's a degree of ruthlessness and pragmatism that isn't often ascribed to his character. It's coached in self-preservation, but the fact is that he's choosing himself over Bumblebee...

Yeah, this is rather depressing -_-;; Oh well. Spike's choice...isn't so much selfishness, I don't think, inasmuch as it is honest. It would be a doomed relationship from the start, and I think that just remaining friends would yield a happier ending than getting together just because of "hunger." I think that applies to real life to, really.

Hope you enjoyed!

I know, and I agree with that. It's just that I'm a little surprised Spike did that. My personal view of Spike is that he is someone who is very social, and empathetic, and can sometimes be self-risking and self-destructive when trying to make the people he cares about happy. Which doesn't mean he wouldn't do this, but I can just as easily see him saying 'yes' because he thinks it might help Bumblebee, even if it hurts /him/. If that makes any sense. I was up way too late when I reviewed.

well - that's a *very* interesting take on it.

I hadn't ever thought of it that...coldly... before. But Sparkplug is quite accurate - though IMO he's wrong about *some* of the 'Bots.

And now I wanna know who 'Jack has waiting :)

=( Yup, this is a cold and heartless bunny. *Pokes it a bit and retreats quickly when it bares sharp fangs* Oh well.

Thanks for reading!

A good story, depressing as it may be. Interesting insight into how the different sides (humans and 'bots) see the relationships.
Thanks for sharing!

I never thought of it that way. Trust you to do so, and then write about it so brilliantly. It was depressing, yes, but a good story. Thanks.

This is an excellent story, and something so often dismissed in the fan world when pairings are made. But its also as human a story when military are deployed from their families for a long time, wanting that comfort--that surrogate even as they know that some day, they're going to leave them behind. For as sad as it is, I can't help but admire Sparkplug (and believing he WOULD do this) for being so strong that he would turn down what amounts to being sloppy seconds to a mate--even a third to a CAUSE. Very nice work.
