Just something to consider...

There's nothing unrealistic about the character interactions in fantasy and science fiction. It is only the setting...and the setting of spec fiction tends to be a lot closer to reality than a lot of "real" stories pretend to be. :)

Oh I agree, character interactions can be "real" in any genre. =) As you said, it's the setting I'd rather not read. I mean, I'll read just about any genre, but I shift toward stuff like Mark Twain when given a choice.
