I've been trying to focus some especially annoying shorts right now. There's so many tangents, on about organized religion, then a commentary on de rigeur, bit of dissociation in the rain, and... GAH.

Urban fantasy? That sounds insanely cool. Urban=good, fantasy=good, urban+fantasy=better? I haven't written any fantasy in YEARS. I keep telling myself I'm sick of it, but I get a sneaking suspicion that I'm just not creative enough.

I'm writing about New York City gangs in the 1920's. I have a slew of characters, but I think I will end up focusing on Frank Lupo, a somewhat clueless bookie and part-time hitman. He carries out a routine assassination of a kid he knows, then overnight, the gangland murder rate in Midtown quadruples. Coincidence? Fat chance. Uptown, meanwhile, an aging femme fatale with unlikely alias starts poking her nose in the Syndicate's affairs... Much confusion ensues, not least on the part of the author. Someday, I'll figure out where the heck I'm going with all this, but it won't be for a long, long time.

Oh, man, my thesis is trying to drown me, that's all. And all last week I was in Wyoming, with spotty intarnets access! But I was a good 'yote and did all of write_away's tagging today.
