THIRTY-SIX : All hail the leaders of the revolution

[She's taken stock of new dronings. She's counted her losses. She's almost ready to post the tournament bracket. She's met with Prussia and Fritz, and now... Now there's only one thing left to do. She shuffles away the folder marked "Westport", and begins to make the call.]

[Susan does not knock or ring the doorbell to ask permission to enter Olivier's house. Somehow, she'll be inside it anyway, awaiting the Major General to notice her presence in the study.]

It's not polite to lurk. [She does not look up at all.]

Neither is it polite to make demands without explaining yourself.

I made no demands.

Technically not. Shall we say you assumed too much, then?

I assumed nothing. [Olivier calmly puts down the notes she was reading and glances at Susan.] It's a warning. Whether you wish to involve yourself or not is up to you. But you've been warned that it will occur, and you can do what you wish with that information.

[Susan nods slowly to this, throwing back the cloak of her hood as she does so.]

Fair enough.

I believe I said I had no interest unless you'd shown your group to be competent. Certainly, you may be. I'm generous enough to assume you are. But you've been undiscriminating in recruiting, no?

Why is that?

[Back down at the paperwork with a scoff.] We need bodies.

And would I simply be another body?

[Slugger has followed his not-mom into the house and chooses now to finally make his presence known. He'll be leaning against the wall he just stepped through behind Susan, listening.]

[Susan's only reaction to the unexpected appearance of her 'son' is a quick flicker of her eyes to his location and back. What a coincidence that they'd both regained the same ability at the same time.

But she would have time to deal with this later.]

If you wanted to be a part of it and you didn't have something else in mind, yes. If you don't want a part in this, no one is forcing you. I just liked your pluck and thought I'd warn you before I unleash hell. You're taking it a little too much to heart.

I won't deny I thought it an extremely odd message. And I try not to make a habit of letting odd things slip me by -- not until I've fully ascertained them.

[She begins to turn to leave.]

I'll keep your warning in mind. Thank you.

There;s only so much you can do when all lines of communication are unsafe and you have literally hundreds of people to reach.

Should you decide this is a worthy cause, let me know. I may have something for you. And, should you not, I'm just asking people to look out for whoever is around them. I won't have time to deal with the casualties.

Subterfuge may be entirely useless, but I don't blame you. . . . I'll let you know before the end of the month. There is something I'm interested in testing. Perhaps it's best done with assistance.

[She hoods herself again and begins to exit.]

Come along, Slugger. We're using the door this time.

I'll assist you if I can; doubtless any efforts from here on will garner useful information.

Take your time.
