There should be a ban on references to "1984," preferably laid down by a talking head on a giant television screen. Maybe there should also be a ban on references to 1984 and just the whole "I love the 80s" genre in general. But Michael Ian Black = SO FUNNY!

I guess so. The Simpsons also lied about the bathroom arrangements in the World Trade Center.

The first 2 articles I read in today's Guardian both mentioned Orwell.

"It's part of a slow clampdown on Belarusian society, one that ranges from the Orwellian to the comical." (story)

"It was a bright cold day in February, and the digital watches were blinking thirteen." (story)

On Tuesday while writing airport expansion George Monbiot even managed to get in a reference to 1984. (story)

The last non-Guardian Orwell reference I found had to do with American Idol producer/hijacker of the democratic process Nigel Lythgoe.

I haven't read Salon yet today, though so maybe there's an Orwell reference in there I missed.
