I'm glad to hear you're feeling well again, Andy! I'd never thought that teachers might get sad after losing their favorite students, but to hear your story it seems like something very real that I guess a lot of our teachers probably experienced too.
And as best I can do by randomly googling your Japanese, you're referring to "genuine" or "true." Any help there?

As for the kanji, the first one does indeed mean "true" or "pure" and the second one means "beautiful". Having such meanings, they're often used in names, with the latter (as far as I've seen) only in girls' names.
