So, the news blurb "please watch us after Boston Legal, pleasepleaseplease" said a number of things I wasn't paying attention to, and then the lady said, "*gasp* Cows with E. Coli?? More at 10!"

E. coli exists naturally in the bovine gut, you ignorant fear-mongering fools.

As with the species of bacteria that causes cholera, most strains of E. coli don't make humans sick. The typical strains of E. coli found in the guts of cows raised on natural food, (i.e. cows that graze on grass and wild plants) are harmless. Something about the combination of feeding cows corn, which their digestive systems are totally NOT adapted for, and giving them tons of antibiotics because they get sick from eating the damn corn, makes feed lot cows harbor a LOT of the strain of E. coli that causes severe disease in humans. The waste from the feed lots gets into streams, etc. and then can end up contaminating nearby crop fields.
That's the E. coli the reporter means. But it's more than likely the reporter has no idea of that fact.
