If I remember it right, the reason it costs more to fly west is 'cause, what with the earth rotating, the plane has to fly that much more to catch up... but that might just be urban legend. *shrug* Maybe the airlines figure the west coast is more hip and fun and people'll pay more to visit.
Hmm. That's an interesting idea. I don't know much about this sort of thing, but now I'm curious--doesn't the atmosphere rotate with the earth? At least to an extent where it wouldn't significantly affect an airplane? Or does it? I'm wondering all about it now.
I'm trying to visualize, too, and wouldn't that make it more expensive to fly *east*? Because to move the sun from the east to the west would mean that the earth is rotating in an easterly direction, right?
Thinking about this any more is going to make my brain explode, so I have to stop. :)
