Wow! Just when things are going somewhat smoothly, BANG! Joan Kinney was the last one I expected on their doorstep either.

Fabulous chapter showing the mature relationship B/J have now with an incredible cliffhanger!

Thanks, C. Yes ... I think that they do have a mature relationship. They're neither of them perfect. They're both moody, both in their own way highly demanding. But I think they've reached a point where they understand themselves much better, and therefore better understand each other, and truly are prepared to put in the hard work to make their relationship function.

Thanks, Kathleen.

Joanie has her own reasons for showing up on their doorstep. Some people might be surprised at what they are. *g*

A cliffhanger! You ended the chapter on a cliffhanger. Cruel. Lol.

Great chapter but it about broke my heart about how Gus was so excited to have a Grandma of his own.

I love Brian's thoughts on what the new home means to him.

Thanks, Lyn.

I think about how often Randy has mentioned in the past about Brian patronising him, but to me the others have always been far more patronising towards both him and Brian. And I doubt that Brian has failed to notice that, and I suspect that he's always resented it.

So to him the whole thing - Justin coming home to him and being committed to staying, the courts giving him custody of Gus - at least in the short term, that validation of his position as Gus's father, and the new house which is the physical symbol of all that - I suspect that, to him, this move is so highly symbolic of all that he's gained, all that he's come to be, come to allow himself to be and to have, that on some level he would definitely see it as a kind of "up yours" to all the ones who've looked down on him and belittled his ability to love and be loved.

AHHH! No, you can't stop there!

I love how easily Jennifer slips into her role as Gus' grandma. Poor little guy, desperate to have something that's just his. He really was pushed aside when JR was born, wasn't he?

And poor Brian! Just when he's allowing himself to be happy and comfortable in this new life and new home he's making with his boys, the Warden shows up! WTF does she want?!

Yes, yes he was. And that's canon. From that point on even Justin spends more time gooing over JR than he does with Gus. I have never gotten over the fact that he wasn't included in Michael and Ben's housewarming party. It really was as if for Michael and Ben and Debbie, once JR came along, Gus seemed to have no importance at all, he became invisible, just like he was in the housewarming scene.

As for Joanie. She has her reasons for appearing. As the beloved Randall used to say AWBR LOL.

Ok, first, can i smack Debbie for making that big of a difference between the two kids? That's just fucking sick, if there are 2 kids in a family you treat them the same! What Jen is doing is not even close to being the same thing as JR and Gus does not live together anymore.

I love the room Jen had made for Gus, that way he can even stay over with her over night once he is more secure in his place with Brian and Justin.

I'll join my voice with all the others and hope for a quick update so we can find out what the hell Joan could possibly want and then get her out of there!

Thank you, yes. ITA about Debbie. I truly thought it sucked that Gus was apparently not invited to Ben and Michael's housewarming. To me, whatever was going on between Mel and Linds, the children were siblings and should have been treated equally. But JR was there front and centre and Gus had apparently been shoved into the closet (I wonder if he ever got to Narnia) that they kept him in for so much of the time.

One day I'll write a story about Grandma Jenn and Gus and Dani, and Jenn can show us all how it should be done.
