What did it for me was the comparison to human "mutt-dom", and how we're just as much a genetic minefield. Seriously, get the dog because he makes you happy. A competent vet will help iron out what happens later.
The one question not answered, however, was that relating to the ethical concerns of breeding pups with flat snouts, such that breathing problems become an issue. (Thinking of pugs, bulldogs, etc.)

Dogs make people happy and active, and hopefully people do the same for dogs!!!
It wasn't that long an article - I completely agree that ethical breeders should be trying to increase functionality. I certainly do work for breeders who breed for functionality rather than AKC recommendations.
