I don't often hustle people to listen to WWOZ.org on the web, I figure that anyone I know that cares about that corner of the music world will already know all about that

Chucho interpretation of Gottschalk may be interesting. Last work I've enjoyed from Chucho was shows he did in Europe with his father. I should listen to that again. I think I got TV broadcast recording too.
Thanks for that, I will be there (or listening to simulcast if Congo Square is impossible). I've always been pretty fascinated with that Cuban/New Orleans connection and how it plays out in the music here. It is a very strong element of what makes New Orleans jazz very unique from other forms. Tis true, there was a ferry prior to 1959. In fact, I am the inheritor a fantastic collection of guayaberas, sundresses, menus from old clubs and lounges, and various cheesy Cuban souvenirs, and many LP's of the pre-Castro era...all were intact in an attic from old folks that ferried to Havana as both musicians and tourists then. I'm also hoping to hear some strains of Gottschalk- Im a big fan. I have all the complete works...what has been recorded, anyway. I will no doubt recognize it.
