Chucho interpretation of Gottschalk may be interesting. Last work I've enjoyed from Chucho was shows he did in Europe with his father. I should listen to that again. I think I got TV broadcast recording too.

Thanks for that, I will be there (or listening to simulcast if Congo Square is impossible). I've always been pretty fascinated with that Cuban/New Orleans connection and how it plays out in the music here. It is a very strong element of what makes New Orleans jazz very unique from other forms.
Tis true, there was a ferry prior to 1959. In fact, I am the inheritor a fantastic collection of guayaberas, sundresses, menus from old clubs and lounges, and various cheesy Cuban souvenirs, and many LP's of the pre-Castro era...all were intact in an attic from old folks that ferried to Havana as both musicians and tourists then.
I'm also hoping to hear some strains of Gottschalk- Im a big fan. I have all the complete works...what has been recorded, anyway. I will no doubt recognize it.
