It's always tough when the novices beat out the varsity. I mean really there is always bound to be a time when it happens. Simply put they often just get lucky or sometimes varsity boats end up with a few people that just give up easier since they have been at it for so long. The motivation for a novice to beat varsity is always greater than the motivation for a varsity to keep the title.

That being said they should learn to keep their mouths shut. Winning doesn't need a big celebration and it's always better to keep it in the boat.

Thank you! I know good point. It is easier for us to give up cause we have been at it longer.

wow I feel so bad I mean I know we cheer as novice and I try not to because it is so rude but I never thought anything of it. It's just like a release of energy. I personally don't even remember cheering. But I will be sure not ever do it again and the rest of the novice decided not to as well. I am so sorry we know you guys are amazing.

It's not that it's bad it's just that a lot of rowers are known for being gracious winners. Keep it in the boat, tuck your medal in, all that sort of thing. Celebrate and support your team but really if you pulled your best your arms should be too tired to raise in cheer....although being in best shape you would feel good enough to wave em around at the end of 2K

I love you guys its not that big of a deal you can cheer just if you do be like "three cheers for fc novice" and then "three cheers for _____" insert people you beat.

The novice boat didn't mean to be "in your face" about it. I also wouldn't say the entire boat did it, because really they didnt, it is almost just a relief of pain and exhaust. Secondly, we love you guys... and we all look up to you guys as the best. I hope you understand, and as a boat, everyone talked about it and won't let out anything again

Hahaha. The wake up special. Said by either Jesse, Pat, or Mike Hertz, I can't remember which.

to all of the above comments i just want to say, and i know im speaking for the rest of the novice boat as well, next time, (if there is a next time), its staying in the boat.
i personally didnt cheer and i know how immature it was to shove it in your faces like that. sometimes our boat just gets a little carried away and it was more like a 'wow that was an awesome piece' and a release of adrenaline, than a 'hey look we beat you guys'.
but thanks for being so understanding anyway--i know if i were you and a novice boat did that to me id be pissed.

To no one in particular. To the Public. smccarthy12 May 2 2005, 22:14:07 UTC
If they don't have the right to cheer about winning, you shouldn't have the right to whine about it. The Men's V8 got beat by the lightweight V8. You know what they did? They cheered. Did anyone in the Heavy 8 whine or complain about it? No. If you think they should hold their rejoice in, you should hold your complaints in.
