Writing stuff set in the late 18th century has involved a lot of research. It has also - as per usual - rubbed off on me. So since I was on my own, I decided to try it for a week.( Read more... )

Very interesting. For a week, it would be fun, I imagine, especially given your caveats.
My conclusions were pretty much the same as yours. I always figured that "the good old days" would be great if you were white, male, healthy, and rich. Otherwise, not so much.

I was quite reluctant to return to the modern day, truth be told (even though I know my 18th C week was a bit of a flimsy pastiche). The day does seem a lot calmer and also quite a bit longer without the intrusion of smart-tech. On the other hand, my husband is in Hawai'i and I don't think he'd survive if I ditched skype permanently!

I most certainly wouldn't have, but I am glad you had fun in the 18th C and will definitely be joining you in any future (past?) trips.

It was fun - although any re-enactor would likely scorn my efforts!
