There is a lady called Mrs Reay. She has quite an upper class voice and is certainly of the opinion that she is upper class; by that I mean she is always polite, but is more than capable of being extremely pushy and condescending. It sounds like Strong's Concordance, which is considerably more huge than a Bible, and is sometimes leather bound.

Ours is pasteboard.

Hmmm.. a huge leather bound book you say... Concordance you say... madness? Well considering that a concordance technically can be any index to a large body of work (although it is usually the bible) I hereby postulate that she was purchasing the concorance for the necromomicon or some other eldritch tome, and the mear act of reading an index to such a san loss book has sevearly dented her mental health.
