The Golden Compass...

A comment I made in response to a friend's comment in my post about audio books had a couple people asking me about why I would not be seeing The Golden Compass. I think that Albert Mohler  explained it very eloquently in his blog. My sister forwarded me the article in an email. The only thing I find intolerable about this essay is that Mohler equates Not Christianity with Atheism, which is hardly the case. Otherwise, big points for 1) recognizing that the Church and some of its most vocal followers are not perfect (esp. re: having an open dialog about sexuality from a biblical standpoint), 2) pointing out that parents/guardians need to pay more attention to the media their children are consuming and 3) having a reasonable approach to dealing with the movie (i.e.: "just don't see it" and "stand your ground if a debate comes up."). I really like that he encourages his readers to be good examples of true Christianity ( ... )

1. It's not that Mohler equates Not Christianity with Atheism. The author is a self-professed atheist, last I heard.

2. The difference between The Chronicles of Narnia and The Golden Compass is that Chronicles builds up the author's faith, while Compass attempts to tear down someone else's.

3. I admit it's been quit a while since I read The Chronicles, but I loved them.
