I mean, in the original, Loomis basically had battered wife syndrome, and the whole thing was very tragic and angsty and made me want to scoop him up and feed him soup and hugs. I trust Jackie to pour in his usual "I have thirty seconds of screen time but can still make you bawl like a child who dropped their ice cream cone" into the character, but a script is a script.
It makes sense, though. I was talking to Writerbunny about it and she made the point that they are probably going to sell it on "Hey look, preteens! Look at how sey Johnny Depp is!" and having a (physically) abusive character does not a sexy preteen lust object make.
Still.
ARGH ARGH ARGH.
(I'm still going to watch it five times the first week it's out just for the Jackie, aren't I?)
