Savage Worlds - initial thoughts

I've been reading Savage Worlds. I was going to run a Firefly game for my group, using the Serenity rules but my little brain has become flooded with Space 1889 and I think I'll bump Firefly back a week for a Savage 1889 game one-off ( Read more... )

Dom's solution was lammies. I realise he went to a ridiculous level of effort, but each player had a laminated character card plus a laminated business card for each significant item of equipment. Each card had a precis of the important rules relevant to that character/weapon on it, and that made for zero learning curve. I suspect the learning curve would have been short even without them, but that's how to make it *really* easy.

Plus, your gun coming on a card with a picture, all the rules and space to tick off ammunition use is really cool. If you're unfamiliar with the background (which I was for 2300) it makes it very easy to visualise everything.

Yeah, as I say this is going to be a one-shot to test the rules really. To save time I'm going to do pre-genned characters. So I may well do little data cards for equipment and edges too. It's a cool idea.
I'm fairly convinced that once we get amongst it, I'll only occaisionally need to refer to the rules and I'll probably have the most important ones summariesd on my GM screen anyway.

I imagine you're right. It felt pretty smooth once we were playing.
