Oh, and talking of slightly lacklustre fantasy, you were dead right about Trudi Canavan's high lord/magicican's guild trilogy. I got 3/4 through the first book before exclaiming "Enough already!" and tossing it across the room.

How she ever managed to publish a 150 page story in 500 pages, I will never know.

Where are The Editors when you need them?
