I'm just like you, very shy and socially awkward when I'm in a new surrounding. I also would like to be an adovcate for HIV/AIDS and this past summer I took the first step in doing that, I registered for my first ever 'walk' I did the National Aids Day walk in my city, I raised a little over 300 dollars. =) It was very easy and really fun! You should try going that route, you'll meet lots of people that have been involved in local aids charities, they'll deffinitly be able to give you some info.

there's always someone who will change everything for you. i've been through a lot in my (short) life. nothing really did much to me til i met the right person. after philip passed away at 6 from cancer, i felt the need to do something. if you're too shy to talk face to face, then online, in print, etc.

you can try and look into keep a child alive. its a advocacy for aids awareness. it does tend to be school related but im sure people who arent in school would be accepted as well.

I think that's amazing and wonderful that you want so much to help others.

I'd love to help people too, but I'm shy like you, and plus, I don't know where to start.

I'm sorry to hear that you had horrible things happen to you in the past. =/
But it looks like you have not let those things ruin or run your life, and I think that's important.
That shows that you are a very strong person.
You should be proud of yourself.

Thank you. I do have my problems from my past but I am really amazed how I didn't end up to be dead or a junkie.

That is amazing.
Most people, including myself, wouldn't be able to handle your past the way you have.
Like I said, I truly believe you are a strong person.

wow, it seems like lots of people are like me, too. :) i'm also very shy, but i really wish i could get over it to help people, join support groups, or do things for charity.. even when my friends are in need, i find i'm too awkward to help them out or comfort them a little, and i really really wish i wasn't like that. :( because like you i think i really want to reach out to as many people as i can in my life..

i think its awesome that you've been so open about your life and that you've used your own experience to help others.. you're such a strong person to have gotten through all that, and i think you're an inspiration to so many people. :) i totally agree with these comments, you should feel very proud of how far you've come. :)
