School Daze

For the first time in 3 years we got an actual letter from the school explaining what's going on for the start of school. Looking at the Girl's schedule, I don't think they could have made something as simple as starting the school year any more complicated ( Read more... )

A big part of the drama is that Kindergarten has a staggered start, the first week of school the teachers meet one-on-one with the kids to see what they know, the second week they take a 1/4 of the class at a time to introduce them to the schedule in a bit more managable numbers, then the third week of school it starts up for real.

Looking at the schedule, it appears that 1-4th grades have a different set up than the older kids. Which means if we're still in this district in 3 more years (probably will be) Alta will be starting on the 5th grade schedule, Lilly on the 3rd grade one, and Maddie on the Kindergarten staggered start. THAT aught to be a joy.

I have no idea. I'm assuming that because Lilly's letter was talking about the kindergarten start, while Alta's letter was talking about 1-4th start. I'd be right on board if it was 1st-5th, because that's the age-range at the school, 6th grade is at the middle school. Why they would keep the 5th graders different from the rest is beyond me.

The only logical explanation is that this is a public school and there for run by the Government. And nothing run by the government makes a lick of sense. :-)

Thanks! I think we're all more than ready for school to start up again.

It WILL be quiet around here though with only one kid instead of 3!

I know what you mean.... I will be looking forward to the quiet couple of hours I will have after I get home each day from classes before the kids get home from school.

My boys are not ready for summer to end. I am ready for school to start, so time will move by faster. I feel like it is going in slow motion right now. LOL

As I recall, when I was little summers felt like forever and I couldn't wait to get back to school. My girls being 7 and 5 are at that "excited for school" age. I'm sure as they start edging towards Jr. High they'll be less excited about it all. :-)

Ha! This sounds similar to my day yesterday when I was sad which normally = organizing so I went through the girls calendar to write up for the sitter when they'd be there in the fall.

Alex's montessori does a 'phase in' approach to returning to school. So after labor day she goes Tues - 1-2pm, Weds 1-230pm, Thurs 1-3pm and Fri 1-3pm.

WHAT?! The normal 830am-3pm is already hard on us and we basically don't do either drop off and pick-up and now they do THIS for a WEEK?! Gah!
