Intro Post (Finally!)

OK, For my new friends here's a bit about me.

I started on Livejournal in October of 2003. I was forced over here at knife point by one of my oldest friends, Rensong. She may deny the knife, but I clearly remember it, all long and pointy and cold. *nod* In the last ten years a lot has happened, as I suppose you might expect between the ages of 18 and ( Read more... )

In Desert Storm, they put in a stop-loss in the Air Force, and nobody could get out for any reason. Pregnant? Nope. If you committed a crime, they still booted you out, of course...but I was going through those military-hospital group prenatal care appointments with a very unhappy young pregnant Airman, who really just wanted to get OUT of the military and be a mommy.
But no dice.

I thought about staying in, I felt a little guilty about getting out on Chapter 8 right before my guys were deployed. Then I did the math, by the time my non-deployment status was up they would still be there for another 6 months. I knew my luck and knew I'd be on my way to the desert leaving Joe living with his parents trying to go to college and having a 2 year old and a 4 month old.

Baby needs mommy more than the Army needs one more soldier.

I knew about half of this, but the details were very interesting! You've certainly been in a lot of places. For some reason, I was under the impression that Joe was in the army too.

Half the time I feel I have a very boring, typical life (married, kids, dog, suburbia...) and then I remind myself most people haven't visited as many places I've lived in nor met their husband in a chatroom, or gotten pregnant while being abstinant 6 days a week, using the pill and a spermicide gel on that 7th day. ;-)

And nope, just me. Joe was stay-at-home dad with Alta until she was 16 months old. This is awesome because he understands that some days the kids are going to destroy the house and there's nothing you can do about it. So if he occasionally comes home and it doesn't look like I've done anything he understands.

I didn't know a lot of the more 'historical' stuff, so thanks :)

What a perfect way to get out of the army :)

I think I did a more "here's what's happening now" sort of intro after Magsmom's friendzy rather than a "here's my backstory" one. Always good to shake things up, ya? :-)

I still feel a little bad about leaving on the Chapter 8 (pregnancy discharge). It's an honorable discharge but it's seen among the troops (esp. by the men who cannot do it) as a cheater's way out. Cheater's not quite the right word... easy, looser's, copout ... I'm not coming up with the right word but along those lines, it's really looked down upon. I know I lost a lot of respect from my guys when I got pregnant to get out of deploying. That's why I seriously concidered staying in to finish out my enlistment rather than doing the Ch. 8, to get *some* of that back. Not exagerating, I spent nearly as much time with them as I did with my husband for a while, I cared about what they thought. But I decided that being with my actual family was more important.

I had a feeling that might be looked at not so well by others in the army, but whatever...you did what you thought was best for you and your family at the time.

Even with the terrible schedule and crappy benifits, it's still my favorite job! (Though teaching archery 2 years at a summer camp is a close second...)

I deny nothing, though it was less "knife" and more "I'm going to make this account and we're going to BOTH use it, so THERE" that eventually turned into just you using it. I'm sneaky like that.

Well... I've never changed the password other than adding a ! At the end when they demanded more secure passwords however many years ago that was. So if you remember what we made it then you still have access. And thus it's still a joint account. Ha! Who's sneaky now?

You're just asking for a hack, you know. One of these days, when you least expect it, something dirty and/or unusual will show up on your LJ and I'll deny any and all knowledge of what that something is/will be.

What, may I ask, exactly counts as "dirty" and/or "unexpected around here??? :-P
