Something to consider is who might be willing to donate a server transfer to a member who can't afford to do so themselves. There might be people in the guild willing to transfer and donate one transfer to someone else. Maybe by buying a pre-paid card that could be used to pay for the transfer by the person who is moving with. Just an idea.
My husband and I's guild server transferred like a week before MOP released, but we stayed on our server a long with a few other guildies. Surprisingly most transferred off, but for us it just wasn't cost effective. To us, transferring meant all our alts as well and it would have just cost too much. We've found a new guild, and we're happy, and thanks to xsevergrouping our old guild has asked if we wouldn't mind filling in if people don't show up for raids since our new guild is still gearing up.
I moved with my guild due to a dead server. The decision took a lot of stress and anguish over something which didn't matter that much, but felt like it did. When we moved, I paid the money, waited half an hour and the toon was over there still in the guild as we did an entire guild transfer. The atmosphere was the same in guild, but on the server it's horrible. We moved to Kazzak, and I would never go to a full PVP realm normally. I would probably hide in the RP-PVP world forever
We're mid process right now. We've picked when we're going (Thanksgiving because we won't be raiding that week for the holiday) and are almost sure of where we're going. The process for us was a fairly easy one. Our server has been dead/dying for a while. There was a slight pickup at the start of MoP, but it's already down 25% of users during peak time from two weeks ago. We had trouble recruiting for our raid team all through Cata and wanted to go somewhere with a much bigger recruiting pool. Once we talked everything over with the officers, we talked it over with our raid team. We had already split from our previous guild so there's only about 20 people in our guild plus all the alts. Once we made the decision to go it's been a relief. There's that constant "not too long until we get off this rock" feeling from everyone. Everytime something predictable happens (which is often on a small server), we just can't wait to be gone. Most of us are moving 2-4 characters over, some all at once, some spread out. We made the decision to move
