Is it just me...

....or is the size of the patch currently dropping in the background downloader causing anyone else fairly significant problems? Cannot-log-in-and-stay-connected type problems? Seriously, I was knocked off at least six times last night and when I just tried to log in, I could not even connect to the servers -- the one time I did manage to connect, ( Read more... )

Yeah it happened to me at first and I was getting severe lag same with several guildies of mine, I had to log out of WOW and let it finish downloading.

The way I solved it was by starting up the launcher on ... Friday, I think ... after I logged off for the evening, but not actually launching the game. (I have two shortcuts for it, one on my task bar that skips the launcher entirely, and one in my start menu that links to the launcher.) This let the patch download to completion while I was doing other things that weren't bandwidth-intensive (web browsing, playing offline games on Steam, reading, online chat). I learned this trick some time ago (letting it download and apply patches while I'm not wanting bandwidth), and it's always worked for me.

Also, if you get it downloaded on one machine, you can then copy the patch files over to the other directly over the network, or use USB sticks, or what-have-you. (My uncle's home Internet connection is by satellite, and is notoriously flaky. Whenever he wants to update or reinstall WoW, he goes over to his sister's home, where she has a cable connection, and copies stuff over to his laptop.)

I've been having some problems but I don't know if it's my internet or WoW. A while ago our internet just came to an almost complete stop and when we called the tech he said the WoW updater was taking up all the bandwidth. We've never had that happen before and we've got 3 people in the house who play WoW. At any rate when I log into WoW now it works fine at first and then my latency crawls into the red.
