Shadow Priest rotation help

Jan 14, 2012 13:40

Yesterday, I got my second 85, a shadow/disc priest after having my ret paladin be the only one at max level for years. I'm gearing her up and taking her through dungeons, however her DPS seems low, mostly around 9-10k with one boss I reached 12k on ( Read more... )

I found Spell Flash helpful. I get better dps now, but still not great. But I also usually heal in dungeons and am geared/gemmed/chanted for holy.

I have read somewhere that haste is super important for spriests.

Hope someone else comes along soon who knows more than I do!

Another note-- I would get the Therazane chant for your head.

I'm working on getting the exalted with Therazane so I can get the shoulder enchant. I have the +60int/+35 crit BoA helm enchant from the Guardians of Hyjal, I just haven't applied it yet.

Oh, derrr. I'm getting my chants mixed up. But yes! Sounds like you're on the right track!

I'm ashamed to say that I only got exalted with Therazane initially because I wanted to get Pebble. ^_^

The rotation I usually use is:

SW: Pain
Devouring Plague
Vampiric Touch

After that, I mind flay until Mind Blast lights up, then I hit that and go back to Mind Flay. And in between, replace those three DOTs if they fade away.

Oh, and keep Shadow Protection, Fortitude, and Inner Fire up at all times. ^^

Also, the mace you got is fine, but I thought I'd let you know it's mostly a healer's thing, really. :) Use it until you can get Jaina's Staff or something better.

I like your set up! That looks awesome. It occurs to me now that I could use my IceHUD addon to track my dots, but I think I'm going to try this one since you've incorporated everything so elegantly together.

I was looking over your spec and I had a question - how often do you use Psychic Horror? In what situations do you find it useful?

Some other spec pick up a point or two in Inner Sanctum instead, so I was just wondering.

I don't use it often, but it's useful if something is hitting something it's not supposed to be hitting. Honestly, both are pretty optional talents, so it's whichever you prefer.

Though it does occur to me that if I'm going to be the foci for the Zon'ozz ball, I should probably take less spell damage. :P I may respec now!

Shadowfiend should basically be on cooldown. If you're in a dungeon or raid, then ideally you want to time it to have it out before Bloodlust/Heroism.

The Berserk racial should be used at any time OTHER than when bloodlust/heroism is going on. Macro it into something like Mind Blast or Vampiric Touch.

For just doing dailies/trash, I throw Mind Spike x3, Mind Blast, and finish them off with a SW:D. Rarely do I need to do other than that, but it depends on the mob. For bosses and fights that take longer, I start with VT, then SW:P, DP, and Mind Flay once hoping for an orb. If I don't get one, I'll usually throw in a Mind Blast anyway, and then start back with the MF until I get and orb or two or three and can get Empowered Shadows up.

Keep ES up as much as you can. There is a bit of RNG to it, but ES is your bread and butter for damage, along with your dots.

As for tracking, I just use Shadowed Unit Frames and make my debuffs larger so I can tell when they're close to dropping. But ForteXorcist is very popular.
