My guild is putting together a group of level 70s for some BC raiding goodness.

If I wanted to participate, I have the choice between two toons, either of which I could feasibly get to 70 in the week-and-a-half till we do our first thing.

The first, and admittedly easiest to get there, is a mage who is sitting at 60. The draw to go with her in the ( Read more... )

I definitely recommend this if you are struggling with rotation. My brother started using this after Cata came out. He had a definite increase in dps and it freed up his attention to do other things while I playing. Like getting out of bad stuff of death on the floor.

Oh, it's not the rotation - it's staying within melee range!

You said so yourself that you've never done any melee raiding, so how do you know you'll fail at it? Are you basing your statement on leveling pugs? Psh, you can't trust those any further than you can throw the servers. Plus, everyone goes through the newbie period when they start raiding a new role/position, so even if you pull terribad numbers, you have the legit reason of still learning something new!

I say go ret and have some fun with it!

I have a difficult time actually staying in range of mobs, and switching from one mob to the next in group situations.

I'm sure you just need a bit of practice at it. :D

you sound like you really want to go on the pally! it's okay to be nervous about it, after all, you have to start somewhere and i'm sure you guildies will be understanding (i'm sure a lot of them are probably doing roles they've never done! heck, some of them might not have ever done BC content at-level instead of blitzing through it!) so i say give it a go!
and, really, if you decide it's not for you? you can still level the mage to 70 also and switch :)

I voted pally because that's what it sounds like you think will be more fun. I think mages are ALWAYS more fun, especially mage tanking Krosh! Ohh ohhh and being in charge of the scarecrow when you get Oz in Opera! I loves it!!! But, that's me and what I find fun, you should play what will be fun for YOU. :P

I loved. LOVED. Raiding on my mage, And I *know* I loved it, and I still play that mage from time to time, and still enjoy it - even though he's stuck arcane now which is the pits - IMO.

I would give the ret pally a shot. You guys are doing this for fun right? So pick the toon you have the most fun on.

I will give one piece of advice though. After you level the pally up to 70 I would finish up your mage as well. The only reason I say this is not because you might fail at being a ret pally, but because you might not enjoy dungeoning or raiding as melee. Talking from experience with my shaman. I leveled her enhancement and had an absolute blast with it. Once she was level cap I started dungeoning with her. It was ok, but not great. When I started raiding with her I realized that melee was really not my thing. I did good dps with her, I just don't enjoy the pov from melee. I want to stand back and heal or cast. Just something to keep in mind.

Good luck with whatever toon you choose. I love BC raids and it sounds like you guys are going to have lots of fun.
