Becoming a death knight

May 23, 2011 13:17

My ladies, I come to you posing a few questions...
I've come to the decision that I'd like to role a death knight and play every aspect of it, rather to not only level one but to also roleplay one. So my questions are these:

1. What is the best way to level a deathknight?
-Do you recommend questing, the dungeon finder, or half and half? And what specs ( Read more... )

For leveling, I'd suggest questing, as DKs can blow through anything pretty efficiently. Or at least, I wouldn't recommend too many BC dungeons as a DK, people tend not to be terribly nice to DKs in that level range.

DK Monitor is a nice one that works for all specs and it doesn't hurt to have it right off the bat.

As for appearance, my DK was resurrected fairly quickly and died in the snow, so her body is not decayed, but has some nasty, stitched up battle scars and splotches where here skin was starting to freeze.

I like MyRolePlay better than flagRSP.

What does DK Monitor do? I'm curious.

I also prefer MyRolePlay and got rid of flagRSP because I didn't really like it at all.

It shows what runes you have available and how much time before they're usable again, how long your diseases have left on a target, and checks if you've forgotten to pop on a presence. I believe it also shows runic power in number form. It's nice because you can move it around wherever on the screen and presents the rune cooldowns and both big versions of the default runs and as bars.

Just noting, the mod is actually named Death Knight Monitor. I didn't find it until I did a google search because I was looking for DK Monitor on both Curse and WowInterface. XD

I can't speak to the other questions, but for your second question, it always seemed to me that death knights are less decaying than Forsaken. They seemed strong of body (not like "whoo I can bench press 100 lb!" but like "whoo, my bones aren't sticking out through my skin!!"), I think of them very much like an icicle, solid to the core.

There's no lore reason for this perception, it's just how I've come to view them, but I don't think anything about the DK starting zone negates it. Anyway, if I'm wrong, someone will correct me. ;)

My main is a DK. I started with a druid but it was too squishy (and I really like hacking and slashing things, lol.) I mainly quested as it was pretty easy to burn through them and you can solo most group quests. PvP is one of my favourite things, so I did a lot of BG's too.

Forgot to mention that I recommend leveling Blood spec cause the self-healing is unbeatable. I also use Rune Watch for my cooldowns.

1. I've been leveling my first Death Knight (Forsaken) and have done so mostly via questing, but that's because while my warrior main is prot, I'm a little scared to try blood tanking in instances. The buttons are just so foreign. xD She's in Northrend now, though, and I plan on forcing myself to instance more so that I'm prepared when I get to Cata content.

2. I roleplay several undead characters with varying degrees of decay. My warrior doesn't really take good care of her body, so she's pretty battered. I think it's important to understand that Forsaken and Death Knights all died and thus you're never going to be 100% living-like. At the very least, your skin is going to be cool, dry and brittle, if not rotted and flaking off in places.

3. I roleplay wherever I am, which is all over Azeroth. :)

To add to your number 2 answer, I thought I would point you in the direction of a book in the DK starting area of Ebon Hold titled, "Guide to the Side Effects of Reanimation".

"... However, there are a few, almost insignificant, details to being undead:
Keep an eye on your rotting. Some is all very well to scare your foes, but an arm falling off mid-stab is just embarrassing.
Learn to love your stench. Some say foul, we say rawrr."

Thus is the edict of squishy undeadness.

1. The fastest way is definitely questing, but personally I get bored racing through Outland again so I usually run the odd instance to break up the monotony. Oh, and I spam-run Ramps because I love that place, but that is so not good advice. ;p I enjoy frost most for soloing because you get a speed boost and you kill things quickly, but you're more durable if you're blood for little penalty. A rune mod is a pretty good idea. I used RuneWatch for a while but now I cruise with the default display with Stuf unitframes, 'cause they're simple ( ... )
