Recently I sat myself on a server for Alliance, though. I love Alliance and have always been an ally at heart. (I love the Horde too, but they don't have draenei!) But I still struggle to stay on one server. I made myself a guild and run it and got my sister and some of her friends to join me, so I'll be more likely to stay.
I'm not much of a guild person in other guilds-- I feel...weird being in a guild that I'm not leading. I don't even know why.
See, that's my issue exactly! I love Horde but... draenei. I am so much in love with that race. ;;
It's pretty cool that you feel that comfortable in a leadership role, though, even if it is just you and some friends ^^ I am just awful when it comes to leading anything. I will not do it unless absolutely necessary, lol.
I like to be in charge if I know what I'm doing. Actually, it drives me insane to follow someone else if I think I know better. This is something of a fault, I think. But then again, I just like making the rules. And enforcing them. (Sometimes enforcing them is difficult, as in painful. Because nobody likes having to scold their friends for their behavior.)
But when I don't know what I'm doing...eugh. That's probably why my main is a DPS (hunter!). That way I can learn all the dungeons from ...uhh afar. By the time my holy paladin (who is the guild leader) gets to 85 (and my sister's prot pally gets to 85) I'll be familiar enough with the instances and such that leading through them won't be an issue at all. <3
There's no reason you can't be in a "Horde" guild and an "Alliance" guild at the same time. Get the best of both worlds. I have an "Alliance" server/guild and a "Horde" server/guild (though there may also be alts on other servers as well). I alternate between the two depending what mood i'm in when I login.
As to which to login to...that really depends on how you're feeling at the time of login. Or if you made any commitments to play X-toon with friends on a given night. Maybe pick one toon on each side of the faction divide and call it your focus char for that faction. That way you only have to decide whether you feel like being Alliance or Horde on a given night, and don't sit there like a deer in headlights trying to sort out what server to login on, let alone which of the alts you want to play.
Hope you find a solution to your problem. If all else fails, go with the "what people do I most like to chat with as I play" question and use that as a deciding factor.
That's actually a fantastic idea. It would cut down on the decision-making a lot. I think part of the reason I feel so overwhelmed is that I'm new in all the guilds I'm in, so it's like I'm getting to know all these large groups of people all at once, and there's no 'fallback' group that I already know and am super comfortable with. So focusing on one specific Horde and one specific Ally character could help with that a lot too, just for being on with the same groups more often.
Yeah there's no way I'm going to be progression raiding for a long while yet, thanks to social anxiety issues that prevent me from even doing pugs. No way can I handle the pressure of Cata raids. =/ It's part of the reason I play so many alts, actually - because I know I won't be able, emotionally/mentally, to handle raiding for quite a while, I feel a lot more free to just mess around.
I think your advice was just great ♥ And I hope that whatever the anesthesia was for went all right!
I like to make alts on different servers sometimes just for some fresh air. :p When I feel lost/bored I make a mini to do list of silly things I'd like to accomplish on my main- getting that fishing pole I wanted, upgrade [xx] piece of gear, achievements, fraps certain encounters into fun videos, redo my UI..just whatever sounds interesting to get done.
Actually that's a great idea. Focusing on something other than level-level-level would probably help me keep that bond I always have with characters I love to play, instead of getting stressed about how I'm still stuck at such and such level. I've been intending to train up my main's cooking lately... :3
That's true! I do like tauren - not so many customization options, but I like the little tauren druid I have on my Horde server a lot ^^ I should try out some other cow ladies~
