Healerific!

I really enjoy healing on my healadin Lucella, and will probably also love healing on my baby priest Vharia (once I actually start grouping with her!). But there's got to be a better way to target my party members for heal <3 that clicking on their portraits. :/ Cuz the click doesn't always take, and it takes a bit longer than I'd like to look ( Read more... )

You can immediately target the people in your group using F1 - F5 :) F1 is you, F2 is the first person in the party, F3 is the second, etc, when doing down the list. You can also target pets by hitting the person's number twice. (i.e. F2 is the hunter, hitting F2 twice quickly will target the hunter's pet.)

I also like setting my UI to show missing HP on the HP bars when I am healing :) This way I can instantly know which heal I should use instead of having to do math xD It helps a lot in cutting down on overheal. When I heal, I almost always hit the heal buttons using the action keys, and use my mouse to target, rather than clicking on the heal buttons :) If you just memorise which heals are on which buttons, you'll be able to cast the appropriate heal without having to look away from the green bars xD

I agree with Kelry on using keys to cast the heals. Something I've done on my pally and druid is set my most used heals to mouseover macros.

So, Flash of Light looks like
#showtooltip
/cast [target=mouseover, exists][] Flash of Light

That will cast it on whoever your mouse is hovering over, or your target if your mouse is over no one. Your mileage may vary. Holy Light I still click to target, but again, I use the key for casting. :)

Oh wow, I think I'm in love! Finally got around to trying this out this morning. This will be very helpful the next time I'm healing a group. :D

I play a healadin too, and I use Clique to heal. It's an addon that lets you bind spells to specific click-bindings. When I shift-leftclick on a unit frame, I cast Holy Light on them, when I shift-rightclick it's Flash of Light, middle-click is Divine Shield, etc. I have all Blessings bound as well. So in the heat of the moment, you still need to click, but you won't need to target and then click the spell you want to use, it's all one smooth motion. If that makes any sense. :)

I use a mix of clicking (and using the keyboard to actually cast the heals) and mouseover macros. I mostly use the mouseovers in raids but I use them in 5-mans as well.

I used to use Decursive a long time ago but I don't really find it useful anymore at all. Now I simply have a mouseover macro that will cast the thing I want (so as a paladin you could make a mouseover macro to cast Cleanse, and that combined with a mod that can visually show you better when people need to be Cleansed is a great combo). For example I use ag_uf (AG unit frames) and they change color when someone is afflicted by a poison/curse/magic/disease, so based on the color I know what spell to cast [if I can cure different things] :)

So yeah there are a TON of different options. Clique is one, mouseover macros are another (combined with a new unit frame mod, or a raid unit frame mod like Grid for raids). If you ever want help making macros feel free to ask :) I'm no expert but I have been experimenting a lot lately.

use your Fkeys. F1 thru F5 will target a party in the order they appear on your screen. If a party member has a pet, hitting their Fkey twice will target the pet. If the party order changes for any reason (someone passes leader, for example), the Fkeys will be reassigned to the new order, so you just have to be aware of that, since the pally in the F3 slot may have moved when the order changed, lol :)

that way you can just have your hand on the a,w,s,d keys for moving, and float your fingers up to the Fkeys to target party members for heals. You can then click on the desired spell with the mousey :)
